Murder Investigation Launched After 29-Year-Old New Jersey Man Is Fatally Shot
A 29-year-old New Jersey man was killed in the Unionport section of the Bronx in the early hours of Sunday, May 24, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:17 a.m. reporting a shooting in front of 2201 Haviland Avenue, within the 43rd Precinct, authorities said.
When police arrived, they found that the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a spokesperson. He was transported by private means to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police confirmed that no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
At the scene, officers observed items including bottles of alcohol and a lighter on the sidewalk, though authorities did not indicate they were being treated as evidence. Remnants of police tape were also visible, suggesting the crime scene investigation had already been completed.
The victim was later identified Sunday afternoon as Jonathan Valentin of Maywood, New Jersey.
